I bought myself the Fitbit Ultra after using the Fitbit Classic for a long time. I’m really glad I was able to experience both Fitbit’s and see what the differences were between the two.

The Fitbit is so easy to use. You have a couple options of where you can wear it:

1. Waist
2. Pocket
3. Chest Pocket
4. Bra

There is an attachment you can use if you will be wearing thicker clothes. This will help to prevent any damage from stretching the clasp too far apart. When you are within 15-ft of the WiFi station your Fitbit will upload your data that has been collected. It will do this in 15 minutes increments. If you want it to update more you can do a force update by putting your Fitbit on its base. This is how you will be charging your Fitbit as well.

The charge on the Fitbit works great. Once it becomes 100% charged, it will last for days and maybe over a week. When I am sitting down during the course of the day, I will place my Fitbit on the base and then clasp it back on me when I am getting up to go do something.

All the instructions for setting up your Fitbit are simple and they really walk you through everything step by step. You will download software from the Fitbit’s main website and then you will pair it with your computer. It is a quick process and hassle free.

Now down to how the Fitbit Ultra works. The Fitbit Ultra is one of the best and most accurate step counters. Another great thing that really caught my attention was that it also counts the calories you’ve burned and what distance you walked that day, and it will track your sleep. It does come with a wrist band made of Velcro with a pocket so you can have your Fitbit easily accessible. You do need to wear it for 24 hours. The sleep mode on the Fitbit Ultra is really neat. At first, I really didn’t think this was necessary, but after I woke up the morning after I first used it I was amazed. It tracked how many times I woke up in the middle of the night and how long you did not move for.

As with anything, there are two negatives about the Fitbit:
1. Very step oriented – If you are weight lifting, elliptical, doing Pilates, etc. it will not track accurately. You can go in to your profile on your Fitbit site and override the miscounts.
2. Do NOT get it wet!

More Positives for the Fitbit Ultra:
1. It’s a clock!
2. Counts stairs and hills you’ve climbed
3. Built in stopwatch
4. Can be used easily if you are right or left handed
5. Great motivator! If you are sitting down for a long time it will say “Go Go Go!” or some other little phrase to get you up and moving around.

If you are still debating whether or not to make your Fitbit purchase just let me tell you how it made me bring more activity to my day. It will push you to do more and it does become addictive to reach certain goals it will have for you on a daily basis. Tomato Sauce

Preperation time: 4 minutes in the Vitamix Blender (please allow additional time for cooking)

7 medium tomatoes – 4 cups chopped total
1 red onion – 1/3 cup chopped total
1 medium carrot – 1/3 cup chopped
2 T tomato paste
2 peeled garlic cloves
2/3 t basil
2/3 t oregano
1/2 t lemon juice
2/3 t brown sugar
1/4 t salt

First, you will need to put all ingredients in the Vitamix blender and put the lid on it. Select “Variable 1″ and turn the machine on. You will need to gradually increase the speed to high. Blend mixture for about 3 minutes. Then pour mixture into a saucepan and simmer for about 40 minutes.

Buttermilk Pancakes

Preparation: 15 minutes in Vitamix blender (please add additional time for cooking)

1 1/4 C buttermilk
1 egg
2 T virgin olive oil
1/3 t salt (optional)
1 t sugar
1 1/4 C white flour
1 t baking soda
1/2 cup whole wheat flour

First, you place the buttermilk, oil, salt (optional), egg and sugar in the Vitamix blender and put the lid on. Select “Variable 1″ and turn on the blender. Begin to gradually increase the speed of the Vitamix blender to “Variable 5″ and blend for 5 seconds. Add baking soda and flour from the lid plug and blend for another 10 seconds.

Pour desired amount of batter on a hot skillet and bake until golden brown. You can also add fruit to this recipe for a sweeter taste!

Almond Cookies
Preparation: 15 minutes in Vitamix blender (please add additional time for cooking)

1/2 cup light butter
1 egg or 1/4 cup egg substitute
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon 2% milk or soy milk
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup chopped or slivered almonds

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. In the Vitamix blender, add butter, egg, milk, sugar and extract. Select “Variable 1″ on the Vitamix and turn on. Increase the speed slowly to “Variable 5″. Leave at this speed for about 12 seconds. Remove the lid plug and add almonds, salt, white and whole-wheat flour and baking soda. Blend for an additional 12 seconds. Place batter the size of teaspoons on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake cookies up to15 minutes or until cookies are golden brown on the top.
